Brightbeam’s List Of The Top 5 Education Influencers Of 2021

From massive government investments in our nation's children under the American Rescue Plan to never-ending debates on critical race theory, education has had a crazy year. Throughout it all, there have been education leaders who have taken the initiative to confront the problems front on. Here's a shout-out to the good work that's being done on behalf of kids.

THE TOP 2021 INFLUENCERS IN BRIGHTBEAM

1- Dirk Tillotson

Last month, when President Joe Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law, one of the primary contributors to the groundbreaking legislation for students was unable to rejoice. Through his Citizen Ed events, Access Denied in 2020 and Desegregate the Internet in 2021, digital inclusion campaigner Dirk Tillotson spent the epidemic shaping minds, hearts, and the policies of the FCC and internet service providers. Because to Dirk, millions of youngsters who had been shut out of digital learning received assistance. The majority of Dirk's recommendations were included into the law's broadband expansion plans. Dirk was tragically killed in a house burglary gone awry in the autumn, and we lost him to senseless violence. We highly advise you to read this beautiful tribute to his work.

2- Alina Adams

In 2021, Alina Adams, a New York City parent and education advocate attracted a large number of new readers to her New York School Talk blog. Check out her continuous coverage of how New York City is evolving under a new mayor's leadership.

3- Jason Allen

Jason Allen was one of the few people who stood up for students in 2021. The teacher, EdLanta founder, and TDRS co-host pushed his kid advocacy to new heights by running for public office for the first time. More information regarding Allen's campaign for the Atlanta School Board may be found here.

4- Shawnta Barnes

Despite going outside the classroom, Shawnta Barnes of Indy K12 kept the ball rolling for Indianapolis schoolchildren in 2021. Barnes' never-ending search for better ways to educate children may be found on her author page.

5- Tequilla Brownie

Tequilla Brownie, TNTP Executive Vice President, was tireless in her quest of greater educational results for children this year. Here's a link to her great post on first-generation college students. A few words of congratulations are also in order: In the new year, she will take over as CEO of TNTP.
