Our Students Need Personal Financial Education Empty Our Students Need Personal Financial Education

A public school in the Diné Nation's heartland was recognised for its educational commitment to provide children with an opportunity that the rest of New Mexico now lacks: a promise of personal finance instruction.

There are 160 normal public high schools and 36 public charter high schools in New Mexico. According to the charity Next Gen Personal Money, just two of the universities are classified as "Gold Standard" colleges, meaning they require personal finance in order to graduate. One of them is Navajo Pine High School, which I am familiar with because it is located north of the Navajo Nation's capital.

Personal finance education is critical for our children's development since it teaches them valuable life skills such as budgeting, saving, investing, credit ratings, and borrowing costs. According to studies, students who complete these programmes are more likely to save, invest, create budgets, and seek out lower-cost credit sources. These resources are required by students in New Mexico to break free from poverty generation after generation.
