If you walked to the top of the Grocery Outlet store in Stockton, California, in the middle of the summer and put your palm on the odd, shiny black panels there, you'd be surprised to discover they were as cold as a basement fuse box.
They are the first of a new generation of cooling systems that radiate heat out into the sky, reducing local air temperatures by approximately 10°F. They were installed by a firm named SkyCool Systems
