Since Twain's pinnacle in the late 1800s, most of these authors' writing methods have stayed mostly unchanged. Plot outlines and ideas are written on paper so that they may be better understood, developed, and enhanced over time.
On the other side, technology is making the life of an author a little easier these days.
When Michael Green, a data scientist turned writer from the United States, began working on his first book, he realised he needed to use technology to make the process easier and faster.
He recalls how the editing process became difficult after he had written 500 pages of a complex storey: "In the midst of editing, I started to feel like I had a lot of stories and characters."
