Area Health Education Center Cheers 25th Anniversary

According to Becky Kendrick, director of the NWMO AHEC, there is a shortage of health care providers in these locations. People who labour in these areas, according to Kendrick, are generally individuals who grew up in them. It is difficult to persuade non-regional residents to live in these places due to a variety of variables, including salaries. Other factors also contribute to the healthcare dilemma in rural Missouri towns.

"Access (to health care) is absolutely a challenge," Kendrick told The Forum, noting that in some cases, people must travel more than an hour to get the help they need.

AHEC's objective is to "provide access to excellent health care, especially primary and preventive care, through increasing and strengthening Missouri's health care workforce," according to its website.
