Right Wing Romanian Political Party Calls Holocaust Education ‘ Minor Topic ’

In Romania, a right-wing political group sparked outrage by dubbing Holocaust education, which was recently mandatory in high schools, a "small issue."

The populist Alliance for the Union of Romanians, or AUR, released a statement on Monday accusing the government of ignoring "fundamental subjects" like "exact sciences," "Romanian language and literature," and "national history" in favor of "minor topics" like "sexual education" and "Holocaust history."

The administration is attempting to "undermine the quality of Romania's education system" via this, according to the statement.

In Romania's 466-seat parliament, AUR has 43 Senate and lower house seats. In November, Holocaust history was become a compulsory topic in Romanian schools.
On Twitter, Israel's ambassador to Romania, David Saranga, contended that AUR's statement is antisemitic, as defined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, which Romania's government embraced in 2017.
