SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Sister Pauline Fierro, CCVI, was one of three Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word who worked to improve educational possibilities in San Antonio's disadvantaged West Side neighborhood.

Sister Pauline joined the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word when she was 22 years old. Sister Martha Ann Kirk, CCVI, claimed she felt a strong call to assist the people of San Francisco de Espada Mission in 1915.

"She'd witnessed in southwest San Antonio that individuals did not have equal educational, housing, or medical options," Sister Martha Ann said.
Sister Pauline and three other sisters launched the school with two to three grades in each class due to a lack of water and enough space.
