Former Education Chief: Parents Should Pull Kids Out Of School Before ‘Surrendering’ Them To Remote Learning
Sat Jan 01, 2022 1:39 am
Former Education Secretary Dr. Bill Bennett advised parents to look for alternative options for their children's education before "surrendering" them to those advocating a return to remote learning.
Bennett remarked on "Fox News Primetime" on Thursday that "children come first, not last." "Over the previous couple of years, they've been a really ignored group."
"We are not permitted to demonstrate a particular sort of surrender in front of the young," he said. "We can't give up on ourselves." We cannot, and will not, give up our liberty and freedom. Find the greatest educational opportunity for your kid that you can."
In the wake of a nationwide outbreak of COVID-19, schools around the country hastened to reintroduce remote learning. Virtual learning is already being used at schools in Washington, D.C., Maine, New York, Virginia, Chicago, and North Carolina, and more are exploring it.
Bennett believes that parents should not accept the district authorities' lack of concern for children affected by school closures.
"See if you can go somewhere else," he said. "They must not have much respect for you and your children if they have this sort of regard for you and your children, knowing the situation it puts you in as a parent, especially as a single parent, and what distance learning does for most children." Consider homeschooling. Consider a charter school. Consider sending your youngster somewhere else."
