Students and teachers alike have gotten into the swing of things at school. Relationships have been re-established, new ones forged, and teaching and learning have begun. Despite the fact that the conclusion of the school year seems to be a long way off, a single notion may begin to weigh on school administrators: How many educators will remain?

Educator burnout is one of the most serious challenges that we, as educators, must deal with. In the aftermath of the epidemic, educators and school officials around the nation are becoming more tired, according to a recent piece in USA Today. As a consequence, several institutions are facing personnel shortages, forcing them to cancel lessons or revert to remote learning. A recent poll from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) indicates how difficult the position of school principal has become. Only 35% of a nationally representative sample say they have not received threats. 79 percent say they have been working harder than ever; 73 percent say they have been working longer hours than ever; 28 percent say they definitely plan to leave the principalship as soon as possible; and only 35% say they have not received threats.

High teacher turnover, sometimes known as "churn," has been shown to lower student progress and waste valuable time and resources. According to a survey by the Learning Policy Institute (LPI), when it comes to separation, recruiting, hiring, and training, urban districts may spend up to $20,000 each new job. If instructors depart after one or two years in the classroom, it's a low-return investment.
