"We'd go into communities and enrol individuals in this biometric data system," says Peter Kiernan, a veteran of the US Marine Special Operations Command.
"You had a device that was approximately 12 inches long and six inches wide. It would scan their fingerprints, retinas, and take a picture of them."

Those who worked with US military must leave as soon as possible.

According to a UN document obtained by the BBC, the Taliban are stepping up their search for those who worked for or assisted with Nato and US soldiers.
Some claim that the massive collections of biometric data gathered by both the US military and the Afghan government represent a risk to individuals suffering retaliation.
