Google App Charges Targeted By Mass Legal Claim

On behalf of 19.5 million UK Android phone owners, a civil case has been filed claiming damages of up to £920 million from Google.
It contends that Google's 30 percent cut from digital purchases made on its app store is exorbitant and unjust.
In May, a similar lawsuit was filed on behalf of iPhone users.
Google said its prices were "similar to our competitors" and that it competed "vigorously and equitably" for developers and customers.
Most Android phones arrive with multiple app stores pre-installed.
Because their apps were free, 97 percent of developers did not pay a service fee.
"This action disregards the benefits and options provided by Android and Google Play, as well as the competitive market in which we operate," says the company.
